Above the Status Quo is a non-profit organization, founded in 2015, that is devoted to developing comprehensive solutions to the unique problems faced by marginalized youth from under-resourced communities.
We aim to redefine the status quo of inner- city youth through the development of evidence based interventions, outlets and environments that address educational, social, emotional and physical well-being.
ASQ is a year round program that utilizes evidence based practice models, and data to develop and implement tailored interventions in hopes of yielding favorable outcomes in inner city youth ages 13-24.
EDUCATION & LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
With this initiative, our goal is to provide educational support to students, through individualized mentoring, tutoring, computer literacy training, SAT/ACT prep and it's 16 week "Chance!" curriculum.
ASQ's leadership development initiative prepares our youth to meet the challenges of adolescence and adulthood through coordinated, progressive series of activities and experiences that help them to become socially, morally, emotionally, physically and cognitively competent.
ASQ is committed to improving the quality of life of participants and their families through a comprehensive approach that focuses on whole health balance; addressing mental, physical, emotional, and sexual health. Establishing safe, clean, and inviting environments to conduct recreational activities, mental health counseling, substance abuse counseling, harm reduction counseling, physical training and sports literacy, nutritional counseling, HIV and STD prevention.

We work to keep participants on track to graduate, while encouraging students to stay out of trouble, behave responsibly, and effectively plan for post graduation.
ASQ builds relationships such as, school-community and local law enforcement collaboration, family engagement, and service- learning experiences with hopes of yielding favorable behavioral changes and positive outcomes. Programs & Initiatives
Marginalized youth are confronted with systematic barriers that prevent access to resources and opportunities; limited resources that are critical to their development and ability to become competent contributors of society.
We must acknowledge the role of intersectionality in our youth being the most vulnerable population, and develop comprehensive solutions to the unique problems they face.
TOGETHER, LET'S REWRITE THE NARRATIVE OF OUR YOUTH
It is important to think outside the "deficit thinking" perspective when addressing our youth. ASQ has learned that developing a relationship of collaboration & partnership is vital to empowering the next generation.
Our youth have a voice, so listen! It is our job to guide and advise them. It takes comprehensive, yet understanding approaches to truly impact the lives of our youth. Allow them to write their own narratives, you just guide the pen in the direction they chose.
ASQ is committed to providing non-traditional, culturally relevant and relatable experiences for our youth. We work with local schools, institutions and other community based organizations to expose our participants to unique learning experiences.
We use current trends to shape our curriculum in an effort to encourage our youth to be healthy mentally, physically, emotionally and socially. We are committed to meeting our youth where they are, and provide the upmost resources available to produce competent leaders of tomorrow.
COVID-19 has reshaped the world as we know it and claimed the lives of many. We are in very unfamiliar times and living in a constant state of uncertainty; yet we remain hopeful.
Yet, we understand the severity of our current reality. To that end many of our events and partnerships have been postponed to a later date.
Stay tuned for updates, we are looking forward to a brighter and stronger future.
We are in this together.
